Wild Boy Racing

New Driver - Samantha Bennett

October 04, 2009

The crew and driver of the WBR Funny Car met for lunch this Sunday in a informal meeting at the local Applebees to dot the I's and cross the T's concerning the 2010 season. Samantha Bennett and her father Brad met with me just to make sure we were all on the same page in our racing program. The conversation was very pleasant as we talked about our experiences in all of our racing careers and what we expected from each other. This 13 year old brings 4 years of driving experience to the table and is just what this team needs. Having always finished in the top ten in points, we are sure that this tradition will continue. This 8th grade student at Schmucker Middle School loves to race and also is an assistant mechanic when her dad works on his own cars. She recently took home the top prizes in St. Joseph county’s 4-H program for her goats and rabbits. You will not find this young lady on the couch, as she is also interested in soccer and plays at any opportunity. Celebrating her 13th birthday in August makes her the perfect age to drive a 7.90 car in the Jr Drag Racing League. The experience and maturity she has gained over her career makes the outlook for next season very exciting. She will apply for her Masters’ License when we roll the car out of the trailer next year, requiring 3 supervised runs at a sanctioned track to validate her move up to "Master". Driver handouts will be printed next spring for her to hand out at the races. Special events are in our plans for next season, and the youngsters in attendance are always interested in the funny car, especially when they get a picture of the car and driver. We are proud to have this young lady driving the car and look forward to writing reports of our success next year. Thanks for caring and being interested in our team. Hope to see you at the track next year.

You should see this girl in the driver's seat with her reflective sun glasses on. She is all business and looks like she would tear your heart out if given the chance.

One of the special events last year was at the Z-Max Stadium in Concord NC. The name on the window as well as the driver number will be changed for next year along with a strip and refinish of the chassis. This is necessary to inspect the entire chassis for stress and weak points. The new engine, new slicks, along with the spit and polish on the chassis will give our new driver an almost brand new car. All of the aluminum, including the engine itself will be polished to a high luster.
